The Colorful Easel Tutorial
Tutorials posted by andrea on January 8th 2010

I have been asked by many fellow photogs where I get those cute little easels that pop up in my product shots. I always feel bad if I'm too busy to explain 'where' I get them so I thought I'd take a moment and share it with everyone! I actually make these easels, it is SO simple, I promise.

First, you will need a simple set of materials.
The Easel (purchased from easelmoments.com)
Spray Paint
Cloth Mask
- you may also want a disposable liner to make sure you don't ruin anything important.

Once you've got the perfect color, and your easel, you are ready to head outside to spray your easel down.
Spray one side first and let dry until it is dry-to-touch (usually around 30 minutes to an hour). Flip, then spray the other side down.

If you like a more shabby chic look, leave the undersides of the easel unpainted. If you want a finished look, repeat the previous steps by spraying down the underside of the easel, making sure to get every little nook. Be careful not to overspray and cause drips.

And voila! You have transformed an ordinary easel into a wonderful little piece.

If you prefer a whitewash shabby look, first paint the easel in white with a 'Finished Look' and once completely try spray again with your desired color, leaving the underside white exposed.

What colors do I recommend? Valspar has some amazing, designer-looking colors not often seen for spray paint. You will find some really cute, muted, colors in your local Lowe's hardware store from this company, also mentioned to be at Michael's craft store. And if you're really feeling creative, try out some of their interesting Spray Effects!

You can do these with nearly any easel, in any size! Thanks so much for checking in and keep an eye out as we work on continuing the blog for more great ideas for your photography business.
